Dido and Aeneas – Music and Theater Workshop
Weeks of June 13 – 25 (two weeks)
- Who? Rising 5th – 9th graders (by application)
- When? 9:00 am – 4:00 pm daily, M-F, with performances on Friday evening, 6/24, and Saturday afternoon, 6/25
- About: This is the story of Dido, the strong, beautiful, and dramatic queen of Carthage who is in love with Aeneas, the prince of Troy, and the undoing of Dido by a group of jealous witches. This hour-long opera was written by the most revered British Baroque composer, Henry Purcell, for the girls at the boarding school where he worked. We’ll take two weeks to produce this masterpiece — learn the music; stage it; make all the set, costume pieces, and props; and perform it.
- Leandra’s note: I love this piece! And it’s a great one for us to learn, with these characters from Greek myth, witches, sailors, courtiers — all of them singing and dancing through this tragic love story. Singers will have multiple parts and be on stage most of the show. It will be an intense, quick-moving, and immensely fun two weeks!
- A refund of $450 is available until April 13, 2022. A refund of $225 is available until May 13, 2022. After May 13, your payment is non-refundable.
Cost: $700 per participant

- About: This is the original Sisters’ Voices Camp, where we learn quite a few pieces of music in daily rehearsals together, study solfege, learn musical fundamentals that are the foundation of reading music, introduce ourselves to the International Phonetic Alphabet, study human anatomy, learn poetry, jump rope, do yoga and tai chi, play games, sing a LOT, and have a great time getting to know each other. It’s a fun week and serves both as a good introduction to SV and a great place to develop skills that are already in progress.
