Sisters’ Voices-Two

Sisters’ Voices–Two ensembles are made up of 4th through 8th grade girls.  An ensemble in Chapel Hill rehearsing on Monday afternoons, and another in Pittsboro rehearsing on Tuesday afternoons, meet September through May and perform many times throughout the year.  Auditions for our 2017-2018 season, our 10th anniversary season, will be open in March.  Contact Leandra at leandra@sistersvoices.org as early as February 1 to set up an audition.  The total cost for the year is $595, including tuition and supplies, with $150 non-refundable deposit due at registration.  For information about our tuition assistance program, please contact Leandra at leandra@sistersvoices.org.

Auditions will last approximately fifteen minutes, and will consist of three parts:

  1. A song that the singer loves.  It could be anything – children’s song, folk song, pop or Broadway song.  Please choose a song before you arrive, and be prepared to sing it (or part of it) for Leandra unaccompanied.
  2. Short rhythms and melodies for the singer to echo.
  3. “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”.  This can be sung alone, or Leandra can sing along either in unison or in canon.  If this song is not familiar, please let Leandra know when you contact her to set up the audition.

Leandra will also be happy to hear any questions that the singer or parent has.

It is normal to be nervous for an audition! Come in, take a deep breath, and do your best. Singers will be able to make choices about the order they do the three parts and whether or not they want their parent/guardian in the room. Leandra loves to hear people sing, and the audition will be laid back and friendly!

Skills and qualities expected of participants in SV-Two:
– love of singing
– desire to sing with a group
– willingness to take direction
– ability to consistently match pitch
– ability to sing along accurately with another person singing a known melody
– ability to consistently sing a melody recognizably without accompaniment, though pitch and intonation may be inconsistent
– ability to use head voice
