Information
Welcome to Sisters’ Voices!
Registration for the 2025-2026 year is now open! Please read the message below and proceed to the appropriate ensemble registration at the bottom of the page to register.
2025-2026 Sisters’ Voices ensembles will be made up of singers in Kindergarten through 12th grade, plus we’re adding classes for 3- to 5-year-olds (with parents) and Stepping In classes for singers in 4th grade and older who want to build choral skills without performing. Our ensembles and classes are open to treble singers: girls, young women, and gender expansive youth.
Sisters’ Voices nurtures singers as they grow, teaching advancing musical, aural, vocal, and choral skills. Our program fosters positive thinking and encourages singers to build strong friendships with each other. We are led by the values of Courage, Curiosity, and Connection — we work with intention, and we challenge each other to hold our values in mind as we work together.
Please read the ensemble-specific information below. All ensembles will rehearse in the Binkley Preschool wing of Binkley Baptist Church, 1712 Willow Drive, Chapel Hill. If you have any questions regarding ensemble programming or rehearsals, please contact Leandra Strope at leandra@sistersvoices.org. If you have any questions regarding tuition or how to register, please check our Handbook. If you still have questions, contact Stephenie Sanders at stephenie@sistersvoices.org. PreSV – 3- to 5-year-olds
Our new program for 3- to 5-year-olds, taught by Musikgarten certified teacher Kate DeAlmeida, will include up to eight children. Please come back for more information and to register in March. To explore more about why we have chosen to choose Musikgarten for our youngest singers and their families, take a look at this information.
Please note: Kindergarteners must have turned five years old by the start of September.
We are offering two classes: 4:00-5:00 pm on Wednesdays, and 9:00-10:00 on Saturdays.
SV-One – Kindergarteners and First Graders (5- to 7-year-olds)
SV-One will be based on Musikgarten, and will include songs and games that will lay a pathway for singers to continue in Sisters’ Voices. This is our youngest performing ensemble.
Parents or guardians may choose for their young singer to join for a semester or for the full year.
SV-One singers participate in three performances each year – a Fall Concert, a Winter Concert, and a Spring Concert.
Please note: Kindergarteners must have turned five years old by the start of September.
SV-One rehearses Tuesdays, 4:15 – 5:15 pm.

SV-Two – Second and Third Graders
SV-Two continues with more complicated songs, games and dances. Singers learn to navigate a simple choral score, reading rhythms and pitches. Singers participate in at least three performances during the year, singing pieces as an ensemble and with the full group of SV ensembles. Singers are challenged to develop strong rehearsal habits, make friends, and have fun making music together.
SV-Two can be either a full year commitment or a semester-long commitment. For the fall semester, singers rehearse once a week from September through January. The spring semester will take place from February through May. Each semester will culminate in a concert. Towards the beginning of January, singers who chose the semester-only option may choose to continue for the remainder of the year if they would like. We will bring in new singers in February if there is room.
SV-Two rehearses 4:00 – 5:00 pm on Thursdays.
SV-Three – Fourth and Fifth Graders
Along with increasing their music reading skills, SV-Three singers begin to sing in parts, practicing many canons (rounds) and pieces with two-part harmony. They focus on vocal independence (singing songs and canons one-on-a-part) along with increasing skills of rhythm, pitch, vocabulary, and score navigation. Singers participate in Fall, Winter, and Spring Sisters’ Voices performances, and occasionally make other appearances.
SV-Three is a full year commitment, and singers participate in two rehearsals each week from September through May.
Singers wishing to enter SV-Three may set up a Placement Lesson with Leandra.
All SV-Three singers attend rehearsals Mondays, 4:15 – 5:15 pm,
and Thursdays, 5:15 – 6:45 pm.
Stepping In – Fourth through Tenth Graders
SV-Stepping In (SV-SI) is a new program for singers who are new to Sisters’ Voices. Those who wish to join SV-SI may set up a placement lesson with Leandra.
SVSI will meet in two groups: 4th-7th graders (looking toward SV4) will meet on Mondays, 5:30-6:45 pm, and 8th-10th graders (looking toward SV5) will meet on Wednesdays, 7:00-8:30 pm.
This is a great place to try out singing! Or to develop skills, habits, and endurance necessary for choral rehearsals. Classes will run like collaborative workshops, singing together in ensemble, in parts, in solos — the group will decide. We learn to navigate a choral score, develop aural and vocal skills, and work toward understanding written musical notation.
These classes will be both laid back and swift-moving. Singers will receive a lot of individual attention in the class, and the leaders will develop the curriculum based on the interests and skill levels of the singers who are present.
Each class will include between five and ten singers.
Please contact Leandra at leandra@sistersvoices.org for more information.
SV-Four – Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Graders
SV-Four singers participate in both Full Ensemble and Skills Classes each week. This ensemble works for strong vocal skills, increasing reading abilities using solfege and other tools, experiments with more demanding and interesting music, and performs several concerts each year.
The SV-Four and SV-Five programs include Leadership work, which happens over dinner on Saturday evenings.
SV-Four is a full year commitment. Singers participate in a rehearsal and a Skills Class each week from September through May. SV-Four’s schedule includes:
- 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month, 4:00-8:00 pm – Rehearsal, Dinner, Leadership work
- 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month, 2:00-3:45 pm – Rehearsal

Please prepare a song you’d like to sing for her, unaccompanied. She will also have some music to sing with you.
SV-Five – Ninth through Twelfth Graders
SV-Five is our most advanced ensemble, including singers in 9th through 12th grades. This group participates in regular Sisters’ Voices performances with younger ensembles in the Fall, Winter, and Spring, keeps its own calendar of performances through the year, especially in the spring, and partners with other ensembles and artists for projects and performances.
SV-Five works for excellent performances of challenging and inspiring music in many styles.
