Information
Welcome to Sisters’ Voices!
Registration for our 2026-2027 ensembles is open! Welcome to Sisters’ Voices!
About our 2026-2027 season
Our ensembles and classes are open to treble singers: girls, young women, and gender expansive youth. PreSV also includes boys. Singers in Pre-K through 3rd grade may enter without an audition. Singers in 4th-12th grades will sign up for an audition time and then meet with Leandra to sing together and share information.
Sisters’ Voices nurtures singers as they grow, teaching advancing musical, aural, vocal, choral, performance, and leadership skills. Our program fosters positive thinking and encourages singers to build strong friendships with each other. We are led by the values of Courage, Curiosity, and Connection – we work with intention, and we challenge each other to hold our values in mind as we work together.
Please read the ensemble-specific information below. A lot of information can also be found in our Singer and Family Handbook. We encourage you to read carefully through this document to understand expectations of singers and parents/guardians around attendance, communication, etc. After reading our handbook, if you have any questions regarding ensemble programming or rehearsals, please contact Leandra Strope at leandra@sistersvoices.org.
All ensembles and classes meet in the Binkley Preschool wing of Binkley Baptist Church, 1712 Willow Drive, Chapel Hill.

SV-Two – Second and Third Graders
SV2 is taught by Rachel Bowman-Abdi.
Participants build musicianship in this positive community by singing and playing musical games. Singers practice solfege and begin learning to read music, navigating choral scores and developing an understanding of the details of written musical expression. SV2 singers begin learning to harmonize and sing in parts.
Singers participate in three performances during the year, singing pieces as an ensemble and with the full group of SV ensembles. Singers are challenged to develop strong rehearsal habits, make friends, and have fun making music together.
For the 2026-2027 season, SV-Two will rehearse Mondays, 4:00 – 5:00 pm.
SV-Two singers participate in three performances each year – a Fall Family Performance, Saturday, November 14, 11am; Winter Concert, Saturday, January 23; All SV Spring Concert, Saturday, May 15, 3pm.
Cost
If the singer is registering for the fall semester only, the cost is $383 for the semester, and we ask that parents/guardians pay this up front.
For those signing up for the full year, the full cost is $765 or $85 per month. A non-refundable deposit of $170 (equaling tuition for the last two months, April and May) will hold a singer’s place in SV2. Automatic monthly payments for September-March will be set up in August.

SV-Three – Fourth and Fifth Graders
SV3 is taught by Rachel Bowman-Abdi.
Along with increasing their music reading skills, SV-Three singers develop part-singing skills, with a focus on canons (rounds), ear training for singing harmony, and performing pieces with two-part harmony. They work toward vocal independence (singing songs and canons one-on-a-part) along with increasing skills of rhythm, pitch, vocabulary, and score navigation. Singers participate in Fall, Winter, and Spring Sisters’ Voices performances, and occasionally make other appearances.
SV-Three is a full-year commitment.
All SV-Three singers attend rehearsals
- Mondays, 5:15 – 6:15 pm
- Wednesdays, 4:00 – 5:30 pm
Performances will include
- Fall Family Performance, Saturday, November 14, 11am (singer call 10am)
- Winter Concert, Saturday, January 23, 3pm (singer call 1:30)
- Spring Concert, Saturday, May 15, 3pm (singer call 1:30)
- SV3 singers often participate in other performances that are scheduled throughout the year.
Audition
An audition is required to join SV3. The audition is a 30-minute meeting with Leandra and/or Rachel, the singer, and a parent or legal guardian.
Singers are asked to bring something they love to sing and that they want to sing for Leandra and Rachel. The teachers will also teach the singer a song so they’ll get a feel for how the singer learns (and the singer will get a feel for how they teach!). And they’ll answer questions and talk in some depth about the program and expectations. The teachers know that auditions can be scary, and they encourage singers to approach the time with a sense of agency (the singer gets to choose whether and when she sings!), courage, and openness to learning something new. Bring questions!
What are we looking for in an audition? SV singers love to sing and do so regularly on their own because they can’t help but sing. For singers entering SV3, we expect singers to be able to match pitch and carry a tune with ease. Many singers in SV3 are able to sing a canon part on their own or with one other person. Most singers come having already had some school experience with solfege (do, re, mi) and reading music (many can, for example, name the notes on a treble staff and understand aspects of musical notation like dynamics and tempo), though these are not required. Leandra is looking for singers who love to sing, who are able to be focused during rehearsals, who want to get better at singing, and who want to connect to others and grow as part of this ensemble.
If your child loves to sing and is looking for a singing community but is not yet matching pitch or otherwise meeting expectations stated above, please contact Leandra. We believe that upper elementary students (as everyone) should be able to try things out and be beginners! And we know that singers without the basic skill of matching pitch and singing along accurately with a song the singer knows well means the singer will have a hard time participating fully in this ensemble. We would like to help the singer gain these skills before entering SV3, and we are eager to engage with you about how to help this happen. leandra@sistersvoices.org.
To schedule an audition: Parent or guardian, please click the link below to fill out and submit the Pre-registration Form, and Leandra or Rachel will contact you. Thank you! Feel free to reach out to Rachel (SV3 Instructor) or Leandra (SV Artistic Director) with questions. rachel@sistersvoices.org or leandra@sistersvoices.org. We’re happy to help!
Cost
$1,350 per year, or $150 per month. A nonrefundable deposit of $300 (equaling tuition of the last two months, April and May) will hold a singer’s place in SV3. Automatic monthly payments for September-March will be set up in August.

SV-Four – Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Graders
SV4 is taught by Leandra Strope.
SV-Four is a full-year commitment. Singers participate in two rehearsals each week for skill-building and to learn repertoire. This ensemble works for strong vocal skills, increasing reading abilities using solfege and other tools, learns musically and intellectually demanding music, and performs several concerts each year.
SV-Four includes focused Leadership Workshops, which happen over lunch before rehearsal on Saturdays once per month, usually the first Saturday of the month. These workshops are part of the Sisters’ Voices experience — this work binds the ensemble together through discussions of shared experiences and growing intentions, and these workshops are required of all singers. Note: Parents, please know that of all the work your singer will do in SV, this work of building in-person relationships with peers through structured work around values and intentions in her life will be perhaps her most meaningful and valuable SV work as she navigates adolescence and transitions into adulthood. Please protect Leadership Workshop time for your child and for the group. Thank you.
SV-Four’s schedule
Note: being present is the single most important aspect of a singer’s contribution to her ensemble. When she is not present, she is able neither to contribute to the work of the group, nor to reap the rewards of connection with the others. Presence at all rehearsals, performances, and other gatherings of this ensemble is expected of every singer.
- Wednesdays, 5:45-7:15 – Rehearsal
- Saturdays, 2:00-3:45 – Rehearsal
- First Saturday of the month (or other Saturday, if necessary), 12:00-2:00 – Leadership Workshop (these will be set at the start of the year so you can put them on your calendar)
- Rehearsal Weekend (mandatory), Friday, September 11, 5:00-9:00pm, and Saturday, September 12, 10:30am-3:00pm
- Performances (mandatory): Fall Family Performance, Saturday, November 14, 11am (singer call 10am); Winter Concert, Saturday, January 23, 3pm (singer call 1:30); Mid-Spring Concert with SV5, Saturday, March 20, 3pm (singer call 1:30); All SV Spring Concert, Saturday, May 15, 3pm (singer call 1:30).
- Please note that more performances, with extra rehearsals, will be added as the year goes on, and we hope for great attendance at these events (though they are not usually required). The calendar is available on our website and will develop as the year progresses.
Sisters’ Voices rehearsal and performance spaces are phone-free zones for singers. Phones (including smart watches, and other devices that deliver information from the outside world) must be left outside the rehearsal space and may not be accessed during rehearsal or breaks. Parents who need to reach their singer during rehearsal may text the singer’s director.

Note to parents and guardians: If your child loves to sing and is looking for a singing community but is not yet meeting expectations stated above, please contact Leandra. We believe that middle school students (as everyone) should be able to try things out and be beginners. And we know that singers without the basic skills of matching pitch, singing along accurately with a song the singer knows well, taking direction, and working with a group to achieve a goal, means the singer will have a hard time participating in this ensemble. Readiness for SV4 means both musical and teamwork readiness. Your child’s vocal skills and listening skills may have come about by singing with family or friends, listening to and singing with songs on a phone or youtube, participating in a chorus or choir, or playing an instrument; the skills of focus and teamwork may have come from participation in a dance class or a sports team, playing an instrument in an ensemble, participation in a scout troupe, family camping trips or lego building projects with friends – any group activity where every person is recognized and relied on for her individual contribution, dedication, and determination to see the project through.
These are skills the singer needs before entering SV4. We would like to help the singer gain these skills before entering SV4, and we are eager to engage with you about how to help this happen. leandra@sistersvoices.org.
All that having been said, we look for your child’s strengths. In SV4 we help her get to know herself and understand her own strengths, and encourage her to build more strength around what already exists. We hope you’ll bring your young singer to meet Leandra. Our audition process is connective, gentle, and honest. Where we can help her gain skills before entering SV4, we will do our best. Please reach out with questions.

SV-Five – Ninth through Twelfth Graders
SV-Five is Sisters’ Voices’ most advanced ensemble and a full-year commitment. This group participates in regular Sisters’ Voices performances with younger ensembles in the Fall, Winter, and Spring, keeps its own calendar of performances through the year, and sometimes partners with other ensembles and artists for projects and performances.
SV-Five works for excellent performances of challenging and inspiring music in many styles.
SV-Five includes focused Leadership Workshops, which take place over dinner after rehearsal on Saturdays once per month, usually the first Saturday of the month. These workshops are part of the Sisters’ Voices experience — this work binds the ensemble together through discussions of shared experiences and growing intentions, and they are required of all singers. Audition
An audition is required to join SV5. The audition is a 30-45-minute meeting including Leandra, the singer, and a parent or legal guardian.
Singer, please bring something you love to sing and that you want to sing for Leandra. Leandra will also teach you a song so she’ll get a feel for how you learn (and you’ll get a feel for how Leandra teaches). And Leandra will answer your questions and talk with you in some depth about the program and expectations. Bring your questions!

For singers entering SV5, we expect singers to be able to match pitch and carry a tune with ease. Most singers in SV5 are either able to sing a canon part or harmony part on their own, or they learn this within the first year. All singers come having already had some experience with solfege and Curwen handsigns (do, re, mi). All are able to navigate a choral score; name the pitches on a treble staff; understand and use vocabulary around aspects of music including dynamics, tempo, timbre, form, style; and operate in a rehearsal where we use musical terminology and vocabulary when talking about the written or improvised music, our vocal instruments (our bodies), the sounds we aim to produce, our places in the ensemble, and our relationships to each other.
Beyond readiness to participate musically in a high level choral ensemble, Leandra is looking for evidence of interest in becoming part of this ensemble, of dedication, of interest, of curiosity, of aspiring leadership. Loyalty to friends. An understanding of dedication.
Do you love to sing? Are you pretty good at it (or have other people told you you’re pretty good at it)? Are you interested in getting better? If there are things you know you don’t do well yet, are you willing to invest time and hard work up front to close the gap on your skills? Do you understand that showing up consistently is an essential part of teamwork, and that sometimes that will mean making hard choices? Are you willing to take direction? Are you willing to work hard? Are you willing to be vulnerable as you get to know this group of people? Are you willing to be a leader, to grow into leadership? Are you willing to support other people’s leadership? Do you want to explore the possibility of being part of this amazing group of young women? If YES, please sign up to audition!
